Maintenance - Automatic Transmission Fluid

Steady does it

After 2 1/2 years of wifey's daily but close by use, I am handed down the Peugeot 407 so took the liberty to flush out the original gearbox oil then at 20,000km. I am recommended a Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) approved by Peugeot and Citroen. I could not find the Dextron III specification but instead, an ESSO specification. 4 litres were bought at RM80/2litre and the car gulped it all without any complaint because I read the tank is 4.3 litres. One definitely needs the right tool for the job as this involves hard to reach places so best to leave it to a mechanic. Labour charge was RM20. Upon the advice of my BMW mechanic, I cancelled my earlier intention to buy a gearbox oil additive because he said the gearbox requires a certain amount of friction to properly grip the conveyor belt and gear slippage could occur if the modified viscosity became too smooth.

  3. hi, is ur 407 cbu or ckd version? mine ckd version need how many litre of atf? where do u buy 4litre at rm80? tq

  4. It's a CKD version. It uses 4 litre completely. I was told the CBU has a smaller engine oil tank which led to it easily over-heating. The price has increased lately I forget maybe RM100-120 but it's a typical spare part shop in Subang Jaya.

    1. tqtq, rm120 is still cheap for 4 litre. I was quoted rm120 for a bottle of 2 litre.

  5. Update: I found the best price to buy spare parts and servicing fluid is to check at Lazada and Shopee. For spare parts, I advise you show the seller the JPJ grant so the right version will be obtained as I found from personal experience some car model upgrade their version 2>/year especially when it concerns oil filter.
