Maintenance - Waxco Petrol Treatment

I can't remember how much I bought this fuel injector cleaner for but I think it was in the region of RM10 +/-  RM5. This was the first time I used it on the 407 or to be specific after 30,000km. I've got this to say about it: it works, that is, it cleans the fuel injector like it states so and the response is immediate. There are other brands on the shelf that sell fuel injector cleaners, the choice is yours, for cheapskate me and from experience, I've found Waxco to be value-for-money. The liquid was poured into a full tank of petrol well beyond 50 litres and recommends monthly top up . For me, only when I plan to go outstation. If you have some money to spare, give it a try especially if you have never done it before, preferably when the car is well run-in. In my case, car mileage is low but the car is not that old.

My lion's hum

My custom exhaust system has a not LOUD but deep note though this recording may exaggerate it because my smartphone was placed directly underneath the rear muffler as you can see here, may be I should have put it a foot away. Anyway, enjoy it if you like beefy exhaust note. It definitely does not sound like the stock exhaust. (Alternative site)

Maintenance - Clean and Polish

Less than RM20
One of many cat stratches
Hey Presto!
The immediate effect is addictive
Last but not least, roof completely cleaned and polished.

Some good news and some bad news... firstly, the good news: I have seen that 911 polish a couple of times at the DIY shop but never bought it but last week, I gave it a try considering it cost less than RM20, in fact, around RM15 if I call. (I'm getting old). Wifey noted the many cat scratch marks by the side of the car near the bonnet because in the night, cats love to climb onto the 407's roof trying to make my porch their domain. All the scratch marks were aggravated because the car has a slippery coat of nano sealant. When I showed wifey the effect of giving the scratch marks some light polishing, we were both surprised and impressed the marks actually disappeared so I went on to clean other areas, notably, the bonnet. The cleaning effect was so obvious and the liquid was easy to use plus did not require much elbow work that I eventually completed cleaning and polishing the car in about 1 hour.  However, after a week with 2 wipes of the car (with plain water) as it rained overnight, one of the scratch marks reappeared. We came to the conclusion that when I gave the car a polish, excess white paint found its way into the groove of the scratch marks covering the spot. Secondly...the bad news: Sadly, the effect is only temporary, after all, cats had clearly clawed their way into the paint. I knew the only way to resolve this would be to one day give the car just a single re-coat of white paint. I guess that will come later when the effect of the nano sealant wears out maybe 3-5 years from now.

Faulty ESP/ABS switch replacement

My turn
The symptoms over the past 4 days, both ESP and ABS fault indicator came off and on whenever they like followed by an audible note. 2 days ago, the brake switch was re-configured to default but symptoms still persisted. Wifey advised me to attend to it quickly because it concerns a safety issue so today, I took the car to the doctor at 9:30 am. The spare part had to be ordered from Kuala Lumpur and if not for that, the job would be quick but home was relatively close so my son picked me up at 11:30 and at 4:30 pm I was called to pick up the car. Electronic components of any car is not cheap so damage control is one to be expected but easily forgotten once a favourite car is driven off passionately.

To be fair, there are generic mechanic who can do a good and thorough service of the Peugeot 407 except may be hampered if not equipt with an electronic diagnostic tool to check electronic issues and they who do have it, have a tendency to push their labour charge almost at par with the official Peugeot Service Centre where it concerns electronic issues.

Cause of problem...a wear and tear brake switch
